Emerson Park Academy Sports Committee
Here at Emerson Park Academy we have a dedicated and hard-working group of Upper and Lower School students making up our Sports Committee. The team work tirelessly, in and around the academy and borough, promoting healthy active lifestyles. Together, they have helped to create opportunities for students, of all abilities and ages, to take part in some kind of physical activity, both within and outside of school, beyond the usual timetabled lessons.
All students are welcome to apply to be a Sports Committee member; an interest in sport or leadership or an understanding of the significance of a healthy lifestyle should be important to the individual applying. Members can be asked to do any number and type of activities, including; writing up newspaper articles, presenting assemblies, photography, officiating, leading and organising. With their smart navy blue ‘Sports Committee’ tops and badges the team are a visible and active part of the Emerson Park Academy community.
From the Sports Committee we are able to nominate students to become Havering ‘Young Ambassadors’; this programme is recognised by employers and universities as one that selects the most outstanding students who have shown exceptional commitment as Young Leaders or volunteers.
Here are some comments from the Sports Committee themselves:
“It’s amazing! We get to organise and lead fun activities”
“Helping out in Sports Committee means inspiring students and encouraging them to persevere in sports”
“Being in the Sports Committee allows us to be one step closer to going on a Reward Trip”
“It gives us opportunity to give something back to a school that does so much for us”

The Sports Committee is a prolific fundraiser; organising charity sporting events that get the whole academy community, staff and students, engaged. One of the most popular events they organise is the ‘Staff Netball Tournament’, which raises impressive sums of money each year for Red Nose Day and Sports Relief. They work tirelessly, encouraging students and staff to get involved in sport by organising activities which raise money for Cancer Research and other charities, giving their time during lunch breaks, after school and even weekends.
The Emerson Park Academy Sports Committee is heavily involved in the local community, working with a large number of primary schools in the borough, organising and leading sporting events and workshops, hosting assemblies and officiating at competitions. They work closely with the Havering Sports Collective in delivering competitive opportunities to KS2 students and fun activities for KS1 children. They are fantastic role models and perfectly illustrate the enthusiastic and generous nature of the students at Emerson Park Academy.
