Unexpected Voices
Issues like climate change, gender equality and how to live sustainably affect us all — and connect us all — wherever we are in the world. Teaching pupils about these issues is what we call global learning.
Connecting Classrooms through Global Learning is a completely free and flexible programme open to all schools in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The programme helps equip our pupils with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to act more thoughtfully, ethically and responsibly as citizens and contributors to society.
Unexpected Voices
The British Council ran a competition in December (2019) which required two schools (one inside the UK, one outside) to work together to produce two speeches on a global issue. Emerson Park Academy was partnered with Crawford College, a school in South Africa, and together we produced two speeches that explored issues surrounding Climate Change.
Recently, we found out that we won the competition! This is a fantastic achievement considering students from all around the world were able to compete. Well done to all of the Year 9 students who took part in this.
Students received £100 worth of National Book Tokens. Collectively, our students decided to donate their tokens to the Elephant Ward at Great Ormond Street Hospital. We bought books, games and toys for children 0-10 years old who are currently fighting cancer and leukaemia.
